Training a horse for showing in Western Pleasure:
OBJECTIVES
TUTORIALS MENU

Western Pleasure is an easy class to enter, but a challenging class to win.

The horse must be quiet, calm, and obedient. He must be as consistent as possible. The beauty and correctness of his movement is paramount.

Almost any horse can be shown in Western Pleasure, but at high levels of competition, those gifted and talented individuals that have been genetically selected for the event tend to dominate. However, many horses may benefit from the exercises used to train for Western Pleasure.

Learn how to train your horse to lope slow and jog slow and to move better for Western Pleasure classes at horse shows.

Of course, it takes more than just loping "slow" to win a Western Pleasure class now. It is no longer a matter of which horse moves the slowest! Your horse must carry himself in a collected frame,

move with deep hocks and a flat knee, and he must be very "broke." (Meaning, he needs to be well trained and quiet and obedient.)

I intend to keep adding more videos and pages to this set of tutorials. I will be rewriting much of the material as I go along, especially in response to feedback I receive from you and other viewers.

I have set up a Horse Training Forum for your comments and for discussing horse training. Please join in!
